Tanzania has the tallest mountain in Africa. The name of that is mountain in Mt. Kilimanjaro. It stands at 5896m and has three peaks, namely Kibo, Mawenzi and Shira. The mountain is in Kilamanjaro region and some argue that is where its name was derived from.
Mount Kilimanjaro is a sight to behold as it towers over and shows off its snowy peak every now and then. The nearest town close to Mt Kilimanjaro is Moshi and this is where the climbers start their journey to the top. At the bottom, the mountain is surrounded by farms of Coffee, cassava, maize and bananas which is also the staple food for the famous Chagga tribe. Apart from the farming, this is where domestic plots begin towards Moshi town. Mt Kilimanjaro has a few different routes to get to the summit, Marangu route Machame route, Lemosho/Shira route, Northern route, Umbwe route, Rongai route and Mweka route but the end is amazing with each route you chose to embark on.
Your journey will begin at the main gate and soon you will enter a forest that covers lower part of mountain that will lead you into the alpine meadows and you will begin to feel the air changing, becoming thin. The climb gets more intense as the surroundings get coarse and arid but soon to be rewarded by a spectacular view from the rocky and icy Peak. Once at the summit, the reward is even greater, the views are breathtaking, memorable and the experience is most definitely life changing. Many people have summiting Mt Kilimanjaro in their bucket list and would undoubtedly advice anyone to have this adventure in their list.
To ice it even more, Mt Kilimanjaro is not only the highest mountain in Africa but the only free standing mountain in the world. It is good to climb through out except the short wet season of around March to May. One of the best things is you can choose how long it takes to summit depending on the route you choose. People all over the world have come to attempt the climb and most of them have succeeded and acquired certificates.
